fascial unwinding

A softer, gentler but deeper therapy for pain & tension that hasn’t shifted — even when you’ve tried everything else.

what is fascial unwinding?

The release of connective tissue that runs throughout every structure in your body... powerful but gentle

A quiet, powerful release: beyond muscles, beyond pressure.

Fascial unwinding is a subtle, intuitive hands-on technique used to release deep restrictions in the fascia:

The body’s connective tissue system that surrounds & weaves through everything: muscles, bones, nerves, & organs.

If you’ve never heard of fascia, you’re not alone.

It’s only recently being fully understood in the medical world.

But anyone who’s ever had a sense of being “stuck,” “bound up,” or “holding tension they can’t stretch out” has likely felt it.

When the fascia is restricted due to:

  • Injury,

  • Surgery,

  • Scar tissue,

  • Trauma,

  • Emotional stress,

  • Or simply years of holding yourself together

It can create long-term tension, pain, or dysfunction.

And because fascia connects everything, these restrictions can show up far from where the original issue began.

Fascia is the glue that holds our system together, a tensional network that adapts and keeps adapting to everything that happens to us, to protect us...

New research shows it has a very primitive and primal nervous system wired on a scale that gives us all our perceptions of where we are in space, how we feel in a 3D sense, and impacts every tiny aspect of movement.

When we go through shocking events, the fascia freezes and contracts to hold everything together...

Often times, clients are so surprised that fascial unwinding requires no pressure, because fundamentally to release those years of freeze responses, we have to create an environment as non threatening and safe as possible.

And that is conveyed in the way we touch and connect to fascia - conveying the upmost reassurance and safety.

How It’s Different from Massage?

Unlike traditional massage, fascial unwinding doesn’t rely on pressure, oil, or muscle manipulation.

Instead, it uses light, engaged touch; staying present with the body’s deeper layers.

As a therapist, I tune in with my hands & presence to follow the natural tensional patterns held in your body.

These patterns often move slowly, almost imperceptibly, guiding us toward the root of what’s being held.

When we reach that point, I stay with it, holding gentle comforting presence, not pushing, while your body re-orients and begins to let go.

You might feel heat, pulling, twitching, a sense of unraveling, or simply a deep stillness.

Some people feel emotions rise. Others feel a wave of calm.
There’s no need to do anything — just to allow what’s ready to move, move.

Clients sometimes leave the table with an expression of wonder as they move their arm and shoulder through motions they haven't done in years often saying is a slightly amazed voice:

"But you didn't do anything, I barely felt anything...?"

Why It Matters

Fascial unwinding helps you access the deeper layers of held tension,

Not just in the physical body, but also in the nervous system and emotional memory.

Because this work follows the body rather than directing it, it allows long-held patterns to unravel in a way that’s safe, sustainable, and lasting.

It’s particularly helpful for:

  • Pain or restriction that hasn’t responded to massage or physio

  • Areas that feel numb, locked, or chronically tight

  • Old injuries that never fully resolved

  • The sense of being “off” in your body — but you're unsure why

  • Emotional or trauma-related holding patterns

It’s also deeply calming to the nervous system, making it a supportive tool for anyone living with stress, anxiety, or chronic overload.

Where It Shows Up in My Work

I don’t offer fascial unwinding as a standalone service, but it’s woven into many of my clinical massage & craniosacral therapy sessions.

Sometimes it’s the quiet turning point in a treatment.
Sometimes it’s where the real shift begins.

If you’ve tried other approaches and still feel stuck, fascial unwinding may be the missing link.

It pairs really well with clinical massage, where I often prepare the area with long sweeping massage techniques, unwind the limb with fascial unwinding and then check for any residual trigger points that may be holding the last areas of pain.

It also pairs very well with craniosacral therapy, if someone has had a high degree of trauma and shock into their system, even clinical massage can be too much, craniosacral therapy is the mirror of fascial unwinding, where instead of only being in the fascial system, craniosacral therapy takes the same approach into the nervous system, the emotions, and the memories of past experiences - inviting your system to go safely up to the experience, reside with support their, and then gently let it go.
