Step 8: Integrating other trauma informed therapies

To support anyone when they are doing deep work in their mind & body.

Trauma informed approaches, like craniosacral therapies, recognise the effects of shock & trauma that has been hardwired into a person's nervous & hormonal systems.

Recognition of these processes through manual treatment can be exceptionally powerful when a flight, fight, freeze, fawn and dissociate response is present.

When these types of responses are present in the nervous system, they are very hard to talk through in psychotherapies.

This is due to the fact that we literally do not have the words or awareness of them.

Embodied therapies like craniosacral, fascial release and massage with a listening touch can be very useful in opening up this space, whilst enabling and supporting talking therapies to integrate into the work you are already undertaking.

For anyone who is experiencing trauma, I highly recommend using this service alongside talking therapies and psychotherapy.

I have links to exceptionally well trained, trauma informed therapists.

I never receive any commission from the recommendation.

This offer of collaboration is solely to improve your care and resourcing, and keep you safe.

In cases where there is the presence of deeply held trauma, such as PTSD or the results of abuse, I require you to work with me under the supervision of a psychotherapist and or counsellor.

This is to keep you safe, manage the speed at which your system opens up, and support the mental reactions to feeling the embodied experience safely.

Complex interactions occur between the mind and body. This is especially true and important to respect and hold safety in people who have suffered abuse.

I understand that talk therapies still have prejudice & stigma surrounding them. The reason I ask for this is to keep you safe.

Working through deep trauma is a long process that requires layers of resourcing in many domains of therapy.

I am honored to hold this space for you, but my own personal ethics require me to know that you are kept safe in multiple realms of the body-mind.

This is some of the deepest work, and I respect it greatly. I respect the challenge that some brave souls embark upon to feel better, inside and out. The key to my practice is to keep you safe, while going through a turbulent journey, that is healing from deep trauma.

Wholeheartedly I respect above all, the length and scale that anyone wishes to dive into these waters.

No matter how large or small it is that you wish to investigate these places, I respect your choice.

This is a very personal choice. A choice if made, where it is important to make sure that the person at the centre is deeply supported at all times.

Thank you for reading and as ever much love,

Carmen

Author's Note: "I say this from the personal experience of having gone to some of these places within myself on training courses and had the experience of not being supported when it came right down to it. That is a truly horrible feeling, but taught me greatly -how not to do it"
